In 2026 Microsoft added Copilot Cowork — an ‘agentic’ layer that doesn’t just answer questions but does the work. You describe the outcome you want, and Cowork plans the steps, works across your emails, meetings, files and chats, and hands back a finished deliverable — a document, a plan, a dashboard — rather than a draft. It’s a genuine step change, and it introduces a new consideration: Cowork is billed by usage (Copilot Credits), separately from your Copilot licences, so the more work it does, the more it can cost.
